There are 40 paylines that are active on the reels. You can’t really choose on what number of paylines you can bet, as is the case with some other Playtech titles, like the Great Blue slot, so you’re left to tinker with the bet values.

To start off your apprenticeship, you can wager as little as €0.01 per line, which gives your bet the value of €0.40, which isn’t to great for a minimum bet to be honest. Playing the Game

The game has a standard 5×4 reels setup, and with 40 paylines where you have to land three or more symbols to land a win, with the exception of the Wizard symbol where you’ll win with just two symbols on the payline. What makes the game standout is the collapsing reel feature that allows you to continue your winning streak with no extra bet, and bonus free games if you get to five consecutive wins or above.

There are five high-symbols represented by characters, plus the wild. The Wizard is the highest paying with 750x if you land five on the reels, and it’s also easiest to make a win, as you get a 5x multiplier everytime you land just two symbols on the reels. The Dark Magician and the Orc can dish out up to 300x for landing five symbols on the reels, while the Red Sorceress and the Wizards Apprentice will grant you up to 150x.  

The book of wilds substitutes for any other symbol, and it also expands with every win to give you more chances. It also shares the top spot with the Wizard, and can grant up to 750x total bet wins. 

It wasn’t easy getting the reels to bend to my will and get many wins with the high-paying symbols, but that’s what I should have expected. The game was more giving when it came to lower paying symbols.

Low-paying symbols are represented by mystic amulets that can bring you up to 125x if you land five yellow symbols. The blue and green carry up to 75x multiplier if you land five on the paylines, and the red and purple bring up to 50x, although I must admit it didn’t happen so often that I would max out on the paylines. It was most often that I would get three connecting symbols, that would pay me 5x, 4x, or 3x, depending on the symbols.
