Invictus Slot Review
Nomen est omen, the ancient Romans used to say. The name is a sign; the name speaks for itself. And the name of today’s slot is Invictus, a Latin word meaning invincible and unbeatable. A bold “nomen” for sure, and a game that indeed looks promising at first glance. But does it really do justice to its name? Let’s get down to playing — and find out.
Theme
Simply put, Invictus by Hacksaw Gaming is an ancient Roman-themed slot, but there’s a lot more to it than just that. It blends several intriguing thematic elements, but in a way that leaves much to imagination and personal interpretation, rather than explaining everything outright.
The game is set against the weathered facade of a Roman temple, with dark, ominous skies looming in the background. On either side, damaged ancient statues of heroic figures stand guard. The symbols include stone-carved Latin letters and busts of people with blurred eyes. Who were they, and what destinies did they meet?
There’s even a subtle vaporwave nostalgic element to it, along with a cinematic soundtrack that feels like something straight out of a 1990s hood movie. It’s an unusual blend, but it’s one of those thematic mixes that you don’t even know how brilliant they are until you see them.
Graphics, Sounds and Animations
The graphics in Invictus are sharp, polished, and of really high quality. From the symbols to the ancient statues, everything looks well-designed and artistic. The overall atmosphere of the game is dark and nostalgic, with a grayscale aesthetic and subtle vaporwave hues of purple, green, orange, and blue. A nice touch that really caught my eye is the constant drizzle of rain in the background.
The soundtrack fits nicely into the game, even though, thematically, it’s totally something different. It sounds “ghetto,” it sounds dark, but also tough and invincible, just like the gangsters the ancient Romans truly were.
The animations are sharp and snappy, but not in the usual slot game fashion. Win lines zap with lightning, accompanied by eerie, chant-like voices that feel like a Gregorian choir. And when you land a big win, the whole screen erupts in a storm of flashing lights.
RTP, Payout and Volatility
Invictus RTP stands at 96.24%, which is solid, but keep in mind that it can drop as low as 88% depending on the casino. That’s why it’s essential to stick to the best online casinos to make sure you’re getting the highest possible RTP.
The volatility is rated as high, and it definitely feels that way while playing, though not to an extreme. Dry spells are common, but Invictus still pays out often enough to keep things fun.
The max win is 10,000x the base bet, which is slightly on the lower side for a high-volatility slot. Usually, you’d expect a bit more winning potential from this type of game, but it’s still a decent payout, just not as high as it could be.
Gameplay
The gameplay in Invictus is fairly straightforward. It runs on a simple 5×4 grid with 14 paylines and features 9 regular paying symbols, along with wilds and FS scatters. There are no special reels or rows, but the sides of the grid, stylized as Ionic columns, display multipliers that change randomly with each spin and enhance wins.
While the base gameplay is relatively simple, Invictus packs in plentiful special features, so you should play it in demo mode first to get a feeling of the game. Besides, playing free casino games first is always a good idea.

Features
Invictus offers quite a lot in the way of special features, but still keeps things straightforward and easy to follow. These include multipliers, respins, boosted base game spins, different types of free spins, and a feature buy option.
Pantheon Multipliers
They appear on both the left and right sides of the grid, along each row. The left side multipliers change randomly with every spin but remain sticky during respins. The right-side ones stay hidden, shown only as question marks, and are revealed only when a payline spans all 5 reels. When that happens, both multipliers sum up to boost the win.
Olympian Respins
When a win includes high-paying symbols or wilds, they become sticky while all other symbols respin. This continues for as long as new high-paying wins land, existing ones grow, or there are no more empty positions on the reels.
Low-paying symbols don’t trigger respins. Their wins are paid out instantly, while high-paying symbol wins are calculated only after the entire respin sequence has ended. A win of 5 wilds pays out twice, once when it lands and again after the end of respins.
Boosted Spins
You can boost your spins in the base game with the following two options:
- Bonus Hunt FeatureSpins™ – Each spin in the base game is 5 times more likely to trigger a bonus round.
- Fate and Fury FeatureSpins™ – Each spin in the base game guarantees at least one combination that triggers the Olympian Respin.
Temple of Jupiter
Landing 3 FS scatters in the base game triggers 10 free spins in the Temple of Jupiter bonus round. The core gameplay stays the same, but the Pantheon Multipliers are significantly higher to boost your winning potential further. You can extend the bonus round by landing additional FS scatters: 2 FS scatters add +2 extra spins, while 3 FS scatters add +4.
Immortal Gains
Landing 4 FS scatters in the base game awards 10 free spins in the Immortal Gains bonus round. This feature follows the same rules as the Temple of Jupiter, but with one key benefit — all left side multipliers start at a value of at least x5.
Dominus Maximus
Translated from Latin, Dominus Maximus means “great master.” This is a hidden bonus round that you can’t buy through the feature buy menu. It’s triggered by landing 5 FS scatters and awards 10 free spins. The round uses the same core mechanics as the Temple of Jupiter and Immortal Gains but adds a third multiplier column on the middle reel (reel 3) for even bigger wins.
After each spin, the left and middle multipliers are combined and applied to all wins with at least 3 matching symbols. The middle multiplier can range from x2 to x20. If you hit a win with 5 matching symbols, all three multipliers, left, middle, and right, are activated and combined for a truly massive payout.
Feature Buy
Boost your base spins and buy direct access to bonus rounds with the following options:
- Bonus Hunt FeatureSpins – 3x the base bet
- Fate and Fury FeatureSpins – 50x the base bet
- Temple of Jupiter bonus round – 100x the base bet
- Immortal Gains bonus round – 200x the base bet
