Duck Hunters Game Slot Review

Duck Hunters by Nolimit City is a highly volatile slot game with scatter pay mechanics. It’s a bright and fresh game to enjoy on a clear summer day, but don’t expect it to go easy on you. If you don’t like the sound of gunshots, you better back off in time because there’s going to be a lot of shooting here. Don’t say I didn’t warn you. 

 

Theme

Load your gun and crack open a cold one! We love stereotypes, don’t we? And Nolimit City doesn’t shy away from exploiting them. This time, it deals with one of the favorite pastimes of the rural US — duck hunting. And it does so in an unapologetically stereotypical and humorous manner. While the gameplay and animations strongly revolve around shooting guns, the symbols show a bunch of interesting characters and objects.  

The lower-paying ones display a “Dud Light” beer, a bottle of “Cherish Moment” whiskey, a crossbow, a duck nest, and a rather menacing duck armed with a shotgun. Now, does Duck Hunters mean humans who hunt ducks or… ducks who are hunters themselves? And whom do they hunt? Huh, you never know.  

The higher-paying symbols show a low-profile figure that’s definitely not an intelligence agent, two brutish bearded men, one of whom wears a US flag bandana, and a very familiar-looking woman. Who does she remind me of? Well, you’ll see.

 

Graphics, Sounds and Animations

The visuals of Duck Hunters are pleasant, with bright and expressive colors and a subtle, aquarelle-like design. Unlike the dark or sepia tones found in many NLC games, this one feels somehow fresh and summery. And you know what that means, don’t you? Summer is hunting season, so be prepared to listen to lots and lots of shooting. Duck Hunters is a loud game, and gunshots accompany most animations that happen on the reels.  

Surprisingly, the soundtrack is pretty plain and stays the same throughout the game, even during free spins. It’s a simple, funky tune that we usually hear in slot games that come from less prominent developers. So, the lack of a memorable soundtrack comes as a bit of a letdown this time. 

RTP, Payout and Volatility

The Duck Hunters RTP stands at a solid 96.05%. This is in line with industry standards and high enough to appease even the most discerning players. 

The volatility is rated as high, yet surprisingly, the base spins feel more generous than what’s typically expected from games with such volatility. Smaller wins happen every few spins, and I haven’t encountered any prolonged dry spells while playing. However, when you make it to the free spins, the massive wins that can happen in the blink of an eye will quickly remind you that this is a highly volatile game. 

The max win of Duck Hunters is 30,000x. This is quite a hefty max win, but not quite impressive for a high volatility game, and especially not for a Nolimit City game. 

 

Gameplay

The central point of the Duck Hunters slot is the scatter pay mechanic. Instead of the traditional fixed paylines, symbols pay whenever 8 or more of them land. They can be scattered around, regardless of position, and their payout depends simply on the number that lands. There are 9 regular paying symbols with payouts in the following range, supplemented by wilds and scatters. 

• 0.10x to 0.30x for 8 or 9 symbols on the grid. 
• 0.15x to 1.00x for 10 or 11 symbols on the grid.

Winning symbols are removed from play, making way for new symbols to drop in their place. This cascading mechanic allows potentially unlimited wins within a single spin. The scatter pay gameplay seems to be the sole focus of the game, while the visuals, music, and overall theme come second, which isn’t quite typical of NLC. But maybe I’m just being too picky and critical here. 

 

 

Features

Although not as complex as some other Nolimit City games I’ve played at the top online casinos, the Duck Hunters slot still offers quite enough. Special features include the xWays and Bomb symbols, three types of free spins, and an extensive feature buy menu.  

 

 

xWays and Infectious xWays

The xWays symbol turns into a regular paying symbol and increases the multiplier on its position by 2x, 4x, or 8x. Its upgraded version, the Infectious xWays, occurs during free spins and “infects” all matching symbols with the same multiplier. If several xWays or Infectious xWays land, they all transform into the same symbol.  

Bomb 

The Bomb symbol explodes and removes all the adjacent symbols in a 3×3 area, except for wilds and scatters, and increases the multiplier on the affected positions. In a cascading manner, new symbols land on those positions within the same spin. 

Free Spins

In a true Nolimit City fashion, the Duck Hunters slot features three different types of free spins, each with increasing potential for massive wins. While their mechanics are essentially the same as those of the base game, the position multipliers remain fixed for the duration, and one or more upgrades randomly occur at the start. Additionally, a +1 Shot symbol may land, which is absent from the base game and adds 1 more free spin.
