Don’t stand there. Sit down and have a look at our video review of the Last Man Standing slot, where we discuss the RTP, volatility, gameplay, features, and more.
Last Man Standing Slot Review
Last Man Standing is another addition to the Western subgenre of slot games. It’s a sepia-colored story about a sheriff’s revenge on the outlaws who’ve been robbing and gunning down good people. It’s a highly volatile adventure with an innovative grid setup and several unique features that may surprise you.
Theme
The old Western movies were all about justice, and so is Last Man Standing. When we load the game, we’re greeted by a cinematic of a sheriff loading his revolver and putting on his hat while looking at a wanted poster of a nefarious character and giving us a short monologue:
All these long years, I’ve been searching, waiting… for my revenge. And now I’ve found him — “Dead Eye” Wilder.
But taking down the outlaw ringleader won’t be easy, especially since he’s not alone. He’s accompanied by 3 of his henchmen that you’ll have to confront first before facing Wilder directly. The first one is “Half Pint” Hank, a gunslinger with a blue bandana mask and a blue diamond card on his hat. Then comes “Rattlesnake” Rich, another quick draw with a green bandana and a green clubs card on his hat. There’s also a lady in the gang, “Longshot” Lola. With blonde braids, a red bandana, and a red heart card on her hat, she’s deadly with a Winchester rifle. You’ll face each of them, not just on the slot grid, but in a face-to-face duel. You’ll see what I mean, all the features are perfectly transcribed—whether you choose to go the mobile casino route or not.
Graphics, Sounds and Animations
The audio-visual aspect of the Last Man Standing slot is somehow average. It’s not bad, far from it, but there’s nothing about it that would make it stand out. The game uses a fairly typical Western setting and a fairly typical Western soundtrack. The visual style is comic book-like, with well-drawn, expressive characters and a sepia-colored ambient.
I have to admit, though, decades after the golden era of Westerns, the theme still maintains its unique charm. And taking the popularity of Western-themed slots among players proves that I’m not the only one who thinks that way. So, I could definitely say that Last Man Standing is a game that immerses you in its ambient and leaves an impression, even though it’s nothing out of the ordinary.
RTP, Payout and Volatility
Last Man Standing boasts a generous RTP of 96.12%, which further increases when special features are activated:
- Xtra Bet – 96.16%
- Quick Draw – 96.14%
- 3 Life Duel – 96.23%
- 4 Life Duel – 96.29%
- 5 Life Duel – 96.40%
The volatility of the game is high. Is it just me, or have developers stopped making low- and mid-volatility games lately? It seems that players’ collective preference has certainly been switching towards riskier, thrilling games. Good thing there are plenty of casinos with free spins that can help boost your chances without too big of an investment. The base game of the Last Man Standing slot is a bit dry but still offers smaller wins every few spins. However, the Duel at Dusk free spins can land some hefty wins with the combination of split symbols and wilds. The max win is a decent 10,000x. This is not quite impressive for a high-volatility game, but still good enough.
Gameplay
The Last Man Standing slot features a 5×4 grid, but with an innovative twist. The top row is called the Slider and operates independently of the reels, sliding in symbols from right to left. This row can land regular paying symbols, which behave the same as those on the reels below, and split symbols, which I’ll explain in the Features section of this review.
The game features 10 regular paying symbols, whose payouts are listed in the table below. These are complemented by a Bonus symbol, which acts as both a wild and a scatter, and a Quick Draw symbol, which activates the Quick Draw feature. Landing 3, 4, or 5 Bonus symbols triggers the Duel at Dusk free spins, while 1 or 2 Bonus symbols in a spin transform into wilds. The highest-paying symbol, the Sheriff, is the only one that pays even when just two of them land.

Features
I would say that Last Man Standing has just the right amount of features. There are enough to make the game interesting, but not too much to make it complicated and difficult to understand.
Split Symbols – These special symbols randomly choose regular paying symbols on the reels below and split them in half, thus doubling their value on a single reel position, but only for the duration of that spin. Each split symbol displays a number that indicates how many regular symbols it will split.
Expanding Symbols – These are special versions of paying symbols and wild that can only land on the Slider row. When part of a winning combination, they expand to the reel below and cover the entire reel with the same symbol. This effect lasts only for the duration of that spin.
Quick Draw – The entire grid gets filled with hidden prizes, and you’re given a random number of picks. After making your choices, the prizes you reveal are summed up and awarded.
Duel at Dusk Spins – Landing 3, 4, or 5 bonus symbols in the base game triggers the Duel at Dusk free spins. But there’s a unique minigame that precedes them, which is not something we usually see in slot games. We get to confront the outlaw in a literal duel, so the game almost turns into a first-person shooter. Landing 3, 4, or 5 bonus symbols grants 3, 4, or 5 lives for the duel, respectively.
A revolver’s cylinder spins to determine the outcome — a hit or a miss. If it lands on a bullet, it’s a hit, and the outlaw loses a life. If it’s a miss, the outlaw shoots, causing the sheriff to lose a life. When an outlaw is defeated, their corresponding symbol on the Slider is upgraded to an expanding symbol for the length of the free spins. “Dead Eye” Wilder acts as the wild, and if defeated, he becomes an expanding wild.
Free spins begin either when the sheriff is defeated or when all outlaws are defeated. If all outlaws are defeated, any remaining lives become additional spins, with one spin awarded per remaining life.
Landing a special Upgrade symbol on the leftmost or rightmost reel grants +2 free spins and upgrades the next symbol by value into an expanding symbol for the remainder of the free spins minigame. If all symbols are upgraded, you receive an additional +5 free spins. Also, the Super Split symbol appears in place of the regular one. The positions which it splits remain like that throughout the free spins, causing any future symbols that land in them also to be split.
Xtra Bet – This feature boosts the chances of landing a bonus symbol by 3.4x at the cost of 2x the bet per spin. It works as a toggle switch — once activated, it remains in effect for every spin until you turn it off.
Fast Track – This feature lets you buy access to free spins or the Quick Draw special feature. You can choose the following options:
- Quick Draw – Activate the Quick Draw feature for 30x the bet.
- 3 Life Duel – Purchase free spins with a 3 life duel for 100x the bet.
- 4 Life Duel – Purchase free spins with a 4 life duel for 200x the bet.
- 5 Life Duel – Purchase free spins with a 5 life duel for 400x the bet.
Burst Mode – This is a fast and focused playing mode exclusive to Slotmill games. Using the same game engine, it skips the animations and displays only the results of each spin, which effectively allows you to play thousands of spins in just minutes. However, if you’d like to pause and enjoy the free spins, Burst Mode can be set to stop and notify you when they occur.
