Thoro by ELK Studios takes us to the heavenly realm of Asgard, where beer flows amongst the clouds and gold shines like nowhere else. This is another sequel to the famous Toro series, and the name itself is a crossover between Thor and Toro. Yes, I am aware of how obvious that is. The game features bright colors, lightning animations, and a solid potential for big wins. Unless Loki snitches the gold from our hands, that is. That’s why we have the mighty Thoro on our side, together with a few more useful features that guarantee us fun times worthy of the Norse gods.

Theme

This time, Toro swings the mighty warhammer Mjolnir and cosplays as the thunder god Thor(o), while the cunning Matador, quite appropriately, cosplays as his mischievous brother Loki. Norse mythology is the central theme of the game and it encompasses every detail of it. The lower-paying symbols appear as stone tablets with runes, while the higher-paying ones feature common items found on the feasts of Asgard—a roast wild board pierced with a dagger, a drinking horn engraved with runes, a beaker overflowing with beer, and a typical Norse helmet. Lightning and gold also appear as major symbols within the Thoro slot.

Graphics, Sounds and Animations

As expected from ELK Studios, the Thoro slot features flawless graphics and bright colors. In the background, we see stone palaces floating amongst clouds, colored with pleasant pastel shades that create a dreamy, mysterious atmosphere. On the contrary, the playing grid is dominated by intense colors of gold, crimson-red, purple, and green. The game’s animations roar like thunder and shock the senses. The soundtrack is just as brilliant. Regular spins are accompanied by a fairytalish piano melody that sounds like it came from an epic fantasy RPG. And then, when Thoro lands, it switches to a brutal power metal riff the very same second. The biggest downside to this game is its below-average RTP. It’s not too bad, but 94% is still on the lower side. Thoro slot is played on a regular 5×4 grid without any locked or bonus rows. The only specific rule is that Lightning symbols and Bonus Scatters can land only in the middle three reels (2nd, 3rd, and 4th). There are 9 regular symbols that form 178 paylines and several special symbols.

 

Lightning Paytable

 

The key to winning in Thoro slot is to move up the Lightning paytable. This can be done in both regular and free spins modes by landing Lightning symbols. Upwards of 4 of them grant a reward, and when 12 of them land, which is the maximum since they can only land on three reels, you achieve the max win of 10,000x.

 

Before the max win, the Lightning paytable has 8 degrees with increasing multipliers for each number of Lightning symbols between 4 and 11. There are also three different levels that affect the whole paytable and change each degree of it accordingly. The level-up happens only when Thoro equips the Mjolnir, and this, together with Thoro’s own multiplier, makes up Mjolnir’s unique feature. Features

Thoro and Loki are the key figures of this game, and both appear as playing symbols with their unique roles. Besides them, the Thoro slot has a few more interesting features that add to the thrill of the gameplay.

 

Lighting Symbols: They land only on the middle three reels (2nd, 3rd, and 4th) and award prizes in the Lightning paytable. Four of them are needed for the first prize, while 12 of them — the maximum on the three reels — award the max win.

 

Loki: Landing two or more Loki symbols triggers the Loki Respin feature. The Loki symbols are sticky and remain during the bonus spin, so if another Loki symbol lands, it will award another respin.

 

Thoro: Acts as a walking Wild symbol and moves to the left until the leftmost reel, awarding a respin with every move. Unlike Loki, only a single Thoro can be present on the grid at once. If there’s one or more Lokis on the grid when Thoro lands, or if a Loki lands while Thoro is around, Thoro will burst into rage and trigger the Thoro Thunderstrike feature.

 

Thoro Thunderstrike: The enraged Thoro will chase Loki off the grid, moving both vertically and horizontally, and will leave a trail of Wilds behind him. This happens until all Loki symbols are kicked off the grid.

 

Mjolnir: If Mjolnir lands without Thoro on the grid, it will act as a blocker symbol. When the two land simultaneously, Thoro will equip Mjolnir and activate its feature. If Thoro Thunderstrike is not activated, Thoro will do his regular spins as a walking Wild but may randomly upgrade the Lightning paytable and his own multiplier due to Mjolnir. If Thoro Thunderstrike is activated, Thoro will equip Mjolnir and activate its feature first and then proceed to chase Loki.

 

Wild: It acts as any of the nine regular paying symbols.

 

Bonus Scatter: Three of them activate the Bifrost Bonus Game. They also act as Lightning symbols.

 

Bifrost Bonus Game: In Norse mythology, Bifrost is the burning rainbow that separates the land of mortals from Asgard, the land of gods. In the Thoro slot, that’s where the free spins happen. They come in a quantity of 8, which excludes the additional spins awarded by Loki or Thoro.
